Preparatory actions
A2 Analysis of ecosystem services in the study sites
This action aims to provide a sound basis for identifying and analysing ecosystem services. In a first step, the characteristics of the different study sites are examined taking into account the various environmental typologies. After an extensive literature research and a comparative analysis to identify and to evaluate the ecosystem services of the study sites (see actions B4-B9), for each study site, an appropriate analysis approach will be defined to obtain a deeper insight into the ecosystem services provision.
The second part of this action includes an analysis of the ecosystem services regarding the different habitat types to select the associated ecosystem services. To reach this objective, the ecosystem services list of the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment will be related to the habitat types.
A3 Analysis of the management and financing related to ecosystem services in the study sites
The main objective of this action is to examine measures and management instruments of the study sites (see actions B4-B9) in relationship with the ecological functions: for example, conservation measures, management plans, land use and regional planning etc. Furthermore, the effects of the rural development policies will be evaluated, i.e. measures of the CAP proposed by the Agenda 2000 to improve the competitiveness of the rural areas and to encourage farmers to adapt to sustainable management practices to protect the environment and the landscape as public goods and services with a ecological and socio-economic value.
