Demonstrative model

B1 Demonstrative model for qualitative and quantitative valuation of ecosystem services in the study sites

This action aims at defining a model for a qualitative and quantitative valuation of ecosystem services resulting from the present ecosystems in the study sites (see Actions B4-B9).

B2 Demonstrative model for the valuation of the management effectiveness of the study sites

The project “Making public goods provision the core business of Natura 2000” will define during this action an innovative model for the valuation of the effectiveness based ecosystem services provision accounting for the conservation of biodiversity, which is the primary valuation criterion. The model will be realized on the basis of the elaboration and implementation of specific operative instruments in which the economic valuation of ecosystem services provided by the Natura 2000 sites will be incorporated considering the conservation status of the ecosystems/habitat types (art. 1 Habitat Directive 92/43/CEE). The action aims at defining an economic and environmental balance expressed on two levels: the first level considers the site and the second level includes the watershed interacting with the site in biophysical and socioeconomic terms.

B3 Demonstrative model for the governance of the study sites based on PES and self-financing

This action aims at defining innovative and demonstrative actions to guarantee an efficient management of the Natura 2000 sites (see Actions B4-B9) by valorising the contribution of the natural environment, the habitats or the conservation actions provide for a sustainable management of the territory. The action includes two parallel and synergic objectives:

  • Definition of instruments for the application of PES in the selected study sites and identification of participative methodologies to implement the PES in relationship the identified ecosystem services;
  • Definition of potential instruments for self-financing which can be identified in the study sites.
