The SPA "Bagni di Masino, Badile, Val di Mello Val Torrone, Piano di Preda Rossa" coincides with the Forest of Lombardy Val Masino, total extension of 2,945 ha. The Forest is divided into two distinct sections: "Bagni di Masino" (367 ha, 12.5% of the total) in the western branch of the valley and "Val di Mello" (2,578 ha, 87.5% of total) in the valley to the east. 

It is possible to identify different types of vegetation: forest of tall trees (deciduous and coniferous) in the basal part of the valley and on the upper side of the valleys (from 1,200 to 2,000 m above sea level); forest for timber, especially in the valley and in the most accessible areas (forests of mixed deciduous and coniferous); mountain pastures (around 1,800 m asl) to the upper limit of vegetation (2,400 m , rock vegetation and debris) to the area lower than 1,150 m.

In terms of morphology, the areas exhibit the qualities of the classic alpine glacial cirques, rugged granite peaks, glacial deposits and accumulations of debris slope, aim of mountaineering enthusiasts. The considerable wealth of the environment is accompanied by the abundance of species belonging to the alpine fauna, among which the presence of chamois, deer, ibex, marmots and eagles.
